Bathroom refurbishments: don’t forget the little things – like taps
Anyone who has taken the time to sit down and plan a bathroom knows all too well that the devil is in the detail.
The easy, should I say easier choices tend to be the bigger items. Baths, showers, basin, flooring. However, it’s been my experience that it’s the bathroom accessories that are overlooked the most often. And in particular I mean taps.
Bathrooms taps
The most important element to consider is style. What is the style of the bathroom? Is it…Traditional; modern; ultra-modern; country cottage or minimalist. This means you can then choose from;
Wall mounted taps
Wall mounted taps can lend themselves to an either modern or traditional bathroom. The clean look is pleasing on the eye. They can be more time consuming to install but I think the look is well worth it.
Three hole taps
Three hole taps like the Hansgrohe Axor range can showcase a traditional or modern bathroom. You essentially have two controls, one for hot and cold water, with a central spout for delivering the mixed water.
Pillar taps
Traditional in there nature, they will suit a country styled bathroom with ease. A single control will deliver hot and cold water through a single spout.
Single-lever mixer taps
Commonly referred to as monobloc taps, this Hansgrohe Puravida single-lever mixer tends to be more modern in design.
The single lever acts as one control for water temperature and flow. The water is then mixed in a single pipe. You can choose a tap with ceramic discs and a wide operating angle, for smooth and precise control.
Hard water or soft water area
For those of you who live in the South of England you will already know about Hard Water and the corrosive affects it can have on your taps. More expensive taps have the washer removed and rely on ceramic plates. Whilst the they last longer the downside is that when they eventually corrode – and they will, it is more expensive to repair.
