Adding a touch of class to your bathroom

A cast iron bath will add a touch of class to any bathroom. There is something very special about these traditional baths that add an air of distinction to your home.

Cast iron baths are durable, elegant and surprisingly affordable in comparison to some other baths. Despite there size it’s surprising how spacious they feel when you sit in one.

There are generally four types of baths to choose from….

Slipper bath, double ended, single ended or Bateaux are the types available.  All look different and will lend themselves to a differing look.

Don’t forget your accessories.  When choosing a bath, you need to decide carefully on the type of taps and waste.  If you bath is going to be in the centre of a room, then consider chrome waste and perhaps freestanding bath taps.  These will be sure to complement the bath just nicely.  If however, the bath will be against the wall, chrome waste will not be seen and is not as important.

Unlike an acrylic bath or baths that are made from polymers (cough plastic), Cast Iron has a solid feel to them that, in my opinion give the product a feeling of quality that others just don’t have.

That’s not to say that I don’t like some acrylic baths.  Duravit and Victoria and Albert both produce gorgeous baths that are acrylic and made from a limestone polymer.  It’s all about personal taste, budget and your design choices.

Bath Feet. In the past you could only really specify claw feet.  However, today there are lots to choose from.

Things to consider before choosing your ideal bath.

If you are choosing a cast iron bath the most important element to consider is its weight. These things are heavy, really heavy – 115Kg – that about 18 stone, which you might think is not that heavy.

However, when you start to add water, say…120litres that’s another 18 stone., plus the weight of the occupant.  All this means that you need to be sure that your poor old floor joists can take the weight – get some advice.

Also, you need to consider how you will get it into place. 3 burly gentlemen with back supports ought to do it.

Personalise your bath with colour

The real bonus about these baths is that they can come primed ready for your Farrow and Ball or Zoffany paint to compliment your existing bathroom design.
