Holy Water - Bespoke Church Font

Robert Muhl and Ronald Emett with the bespoke church fontOcean Bathrooms have had many diverse and interesting requests over its fifteen years trading in Bridport.  Local furniture craftsman Ronald Emett, who has lived and worked in West Dorset since 1990, was asked to produce a font for All Saints Church in Guildford.  The vicar requested a font with a glass bowl so that young children gathered around the font could see what was happening through the glass.

Ocean Bathrooms found exactly the right bowl from the innovative Roper Rhodes Collection. Robert Mühl, Managing Director of Ocean Bathrooms was delighted to be challenged with such an unusual request, and said.  “We’ve been involved in many unusual projects, including supplying bathrooms for a sailing ship.  It’s a great pleasure for us to be involved with local craftsmen working on such interesting projects.”

Put together with the unmistakable skills of Ronald Emett, a beautiful and lasting piece of church furniture has been created.   Ronald said, “I’m highly delighted that you could find a bowl so lovely.”  The glass bowl complements the French Oak, black Bog Oak and Burr Oak base.

This is the fourth piece Ronald has created for All Saints.  Guildford Cathedral also has four pieces of Ronald’s work.  Nearer to home he recently completed an altar, together with cross and candlesticks for the Hillary Chapel in St Mary’s Beaminster.

Ronald Emett was awarded the MBE for his work with the Beaminster Festival, and is a member of the Society of Designer Craftsmen and the Devon Guild of Craftsmen.
